Earlier this year, the European Commission published amendments to Regulation 910/2014 (eIDAS) on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market.

This draft aims to ensure, for cross-border use:

• access to highly secure and trustworthy digital identity solutions;
• that public and private services can rely on trustworthy and secure digital identity solutions;
• that natural and legal persons are entitled to use digital identity solutions;
• that these solutions are linked to various documents and allow targeted exchange of identity data, with limits set for providing a specific service;
• acceptance of qualified electronic trust services in the EU and a level playing field for their provision.
